The Philosophy

Aside from plenty of exercise and good nutrition, a stress free environment is essential to good health. To this end, Llewellyn provides the dogs with 24 hour human companionship.

In addition, Llewellyn designed a unique kennel building that ensures that each dog feels he is a family pet.

North Front Llewellyn Kennel

In addition to the big sliding windows, the north runs catch the sunlight though 100 feet of skylight

South Runs Llewellyn Kennel

Interior kennels are climate controlled. Exterior runs are roofed to eliminate rain and snow, and exterior walls are of sliding glass panels that overlook the entire property.

Glass all round combined with easy-to-see-through welded wire rather than chain link, lets each dog see and be seen by his master (trainers and dispatch people), so they feel that they belong.

Llewellyn Interior Kennels

A built in high pressure hose-down system means no scooping, just "blast" everything into the drains, where sewage lines ensure that no waste from one run can contaminate another. The labour-saving design frees staff from grunt work, allowing more one-on-one quality time with the dogs.

The kennel offers a choice of sleeping on a floor-level pallet, a sleeping box 2 feet off the floor, or 4 feet up on top of the raised sleeping box. (many dogs prefer the highest level) While they are happy in their home, there is tremendous excitement when it's time to go off to work (they consider it going for a walk with their favorite handler.)

Exercise Fields at Llewellyn

Llewellyn dogs enjoy full out exercise summer and winter in wide open fields as part of their physical fitness programme.

Llewellyn Whelping Room

Away from the noise and activity of the main kennel building, is Llewellyn's "Hospital"
Left: the "quiet room" features small pens for limpers and gimpers; recovery kennels just big enough for comfort for dogs under doctor's orders to take it easy.
Right: big windows look into the bright, roomy whelping room. The room doubles as a nursery, offering the puppies protection from bacteria, but allowing plenty of interaction with visitors.
